How to Organize and Store Rugs
Although there are artifacts designed and built to be thrown on the ground, it is recommended not to be exposed once placed on the ground. Carpet is particularly delicate and expensive in a very busy environment or is at risk of stainings, such as in a dining room or nursery. In this article, we will see how to organize it in the most convenient way. What is the correct method to store rugs without damaging them when they are set aside for a certain period of time?
Things Required
- 1 wet brush
- felt pads
- non-slip mesh or latex underlay
- 1st page
- a piece of camphor
- tissue
Best place for rug placement
As with all fabrics, even carpet is afraid of direct sunlight. It’s good to know that it causes the leaf to discolor, creating unsightly stains. So try not to place rugs near a window or make sure there is always a filter in at least one curtain or blind in front of the window. Avoid the direct sun always falling on the same spot, and the constant crushing caused by constant crossing along the same paths can discolor or distort the carpet. It will be convenient to change places every now and then, closing the blinds if there is too much sun. Frankly, if you decide to keep your carpet in the entrance or hallway, ruining it is inevitable.
Change your rug layout
Change the layout of your rugs from time to time, but if that’s not possible, rotate them 180° two or three times a year as they merge with the furniture. To avoid excessive wear, don’t drag chairs or armchairs with the carpet when you need to move them, and remember to always lift them instead. In fact, both armchairs, sofas, and very heavy furniture crush the fleece, creating residues that stretch over time or that you can remove by brushing the grain with a damp brush from the carpet.
Brush again when the wool is almost dry, but this time fold the fleece. However, even in this case, it is better to avoid damage: avoid placing heavy furniture on the carpet or putting felt pads under its supports to enlarge the support surface and distribute the weight over a larger area if you cannot avoid putting a piece of furniture on it. On the other hand, if your carpet moves, keep the non-slip mesh or subfloor in latex to keep it stable and have them cut smaller than the carpet. This will also avoid dangerous slips and associated falls.
Store your rug
If, for any reason, you want to put a rug down and store it, after cleaning, roll it on itself without wringing it too hard, then wrap it in a rug storage bag in which you put camphor wrapped in tissue paper to prevent staining. Avoid using fleece fabric or sheets that do not allow the newspaper to breathe, as you can create dark spots left by typographic ink. Put it in a cool and dry place. Moisture not only gives it a bad odor but can also ruin it irreparably.
