For years, cardboard cigarette boxes have been the go-to packaging for cigs. Not only are they cheap, but they also help to conceal the brand, prevent theft, and give a more luxurious feel to the product.
It’s easy to see why. Not only do they look the part, but they also give off a premium feel. But what if you’re ready to ditch the cigarette brands?
You no longer have to, thanks to this simple how-to. Here’s how to make cardboard cigarette boxes.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
You’ll need a piece of cardboard that measures approximately 9” x 6”. You can make this as big or as small as you want, as long as it measures at least that. Slightly larger is better, so you have enough space to insert your brand logo or other design.
TIP: Measure out your cardboard before you cut it. Using a ruler works best in order to get the most accurate size for your box.
Step 2: Cut Your Cardboard
Now that you have figured out the size of your cardboard box, it’s time to cut it out! Start by cutting a 3-inch-wide strip from the top and bottom of the cardboard layer at a 45-degree angle from one end to the other. Next, cut three smaller strips from this piece of cardboard; these will be used for the lid and bottom flaps. Once finished, take each piece and fold them in half
What You’ll Need
1. Cardboard Boxes
Cardboard boxes can be found all over the place, from grocery stores to drug stores. For this tutorial, I used a box that was already cut open.
2. Scissors
To cut the cardboard box into thirds (for the bottom, middle and top of the box), you’ll need a pair of scissors.
3. Glue
While you can use any type of glue to stick your pieces together, hot glue is easiest and quickest. It’s also less likely to leave a sticky residue behind on your hands or in the cardboard box (which could potentially be used again).
4. Knife/Cutting Board/Scissors/Grippers
The last thing you’ll need for this tutorial is something to cut your cardboard with; I recommend a knife or cutting board for this step because it will make things easier for you and will also help prevent cuts on your hands as well as your fingers.
How to Make Cardboard Cigarette Boxes?
Start with sturdy, custom boxes – the thinner the box, the better the end product Cut off the flaps and, in some cases, the flaps themselves – Depending on the size of your box, you may have a few remaining pieces of paper that fly around when cutting. To prevent this, you may want to cut off the flaps before cutting the box itself.
You can make your box as plain or fancy as you like. I just gave my box a simple, round shape that was easy to hold.
Take your newly cut cardboard and glue the top piece on to make a bottom for the box.
Take your middle piece and glue it in between the bottom and top of your box. I used hot glue because it’s quick, easy, and won’t leave a sticky residue on your hands or in the cardboard box (which could potentially be used again).
Take your last piece of cardboard and glue it onto the middle of the bottom piece of cardboard.
Once all of your pieces are glued together, use scissors to cut out any excess pieces that fly around when cutting or gluing. This will help prevent cuts on hands and fingers as well as prevent accidents when handling or storing your new product
Final Tips for Making Cardable Cigarette Boxes
After cutting, make sure to clean the box thoroughly – Similarly, any dust particles should also be removed – Next, make sure to also wash hands for at least one minute prior to touching the box again – Lastly, make sure to keep the box in an air-tight container – This will ensure its smooth texture is maintained – It won’t crack in the middle like other materials
