Xfinity, as well as RCN, are both well-known broadband and pay-TV services. Xfinity is an excellent choice for those who only watch TV and mobile and sports enthusiasts. However, RCN is better for those who need budget-friendly high-speed Internet. Also, check more packages, Xfinity internet plans.

Xfinity has been working to keep up with their “infinity” play in their name by adding thousands and hundreds of movies to the X1 streaming library. However, RCN might reference “Really Cheap Netflix” because they allow the ability to stream unlimited (no limits on data).

There are distinct features, and the information below can help you decide on a more straightforward service.

Xfinity vs. RCN in a Nutshell

Network Coverage Comparison for Xfinity Vs. RCN

In selecting an internet service provider, it is essential to understand the network infrastructure basics. The method by which the providers provide internet access to your house can affect how reliable and speedy your Internet speed will be.

Xfinity has a vast network that is based on fiber and cable connections. Households across forty states have access to Xfinity’s Internet via cable. The main benefit of having a cable internet provider is the broad coverage of cable networks.

Xfinity can offer high-speed Internet that is usually only available to urban areas and remote mountainside escapes and suburbs with little infrastructure.

The fiber plan offered by Xfinity is the fastest speed available to residential customers, yet less than 19,000 customers have access. RCN also provides fiber internet in a majority of the areas where they’re accessible. Unfortunately, this doesn’t grant them an advantage over Xfinity’s coverage overall because RCN is available only across seven states.

Xfinity Vs. RCN: Speed and Internet Performance

Xfinity Internet service is provided via coaxial cables that connect to your television and are capable of faster speeds than that offered by dial-up and DSL. Cable was the most popular choice in internet connectivity before fiber was invented. It’s not the case anymore; however, cable internet is a reliable connection adequate for any usage.

Be aware that a cable connection often does not have consistent speeds. Your internet speed is in part dependent on how much your neighbor’s internet usage is. A higher volume of traffic can mean slower speeds. So that when everyone is home and switches on Netflix to watch the evening show, it is possible that you will see your rate drop.

On the other hand, RCN has broadband Internet in most service areas and broadband Internet via cable. Fiber optics is the most advanced technology when it comes to the speed of the Internet. Information is transferred when light bounces off rods made of plastic or glass and is very fast and stable. The internet use of your neighbors will not affect your speed in the same way since fiber lines connect directly towards your residence.

One of the drawbacks to fiber networks is the cost they can be set up. RCN does not have the same coverage as Xfinity provides. If you happen to be located in the region where their fiber network is available their network, it’s the most obvious option.

Xfinity Vs. RCN Pricing and Plan Features

Pricing is the place where RCN truly shines when compared. The pricing offered by Xfinity isn’t comparable to RCN. People who are budget-conscious and live in a region that provides RCN services would likely be content with their plans because of the lower costs and lack of caps on the data. For instance, if you’re in Chicago, the RCN starting price is approximately $10 lower than the Xfinity’s.

But, I must admit that Xfinity provides better features in its internet packages than RCN offers. Every Xfinity Internet customer receives access for free to Peacock originals, and a no-cost streaming device exclusive to Xfinity called the Xfinity Flex. In addition, you can benefit from the advanced security features with the xFi Gateway, which is the modem/router combination of Xfinity.

Although I’m a huge fan of freebies, I’d much rather have an option that doesn’t have data caps. Xfinity offers the 1.2 TB data limit for all their plans. The majority of families who work from home, with full-time schoolchildren, aren’t likely to succeed over the limit of data. You could still skip all caps using an RCN internet plan, and you’d pay less even if you add the paid Peacock subscription that matches the one Xfinity offers.

Remember it is that the internet packages offered by RCN do not include the standard features, like free internet security and public hotspots. If you’re looking for internet security or want to expand the Wi-Fi coverage, you’ll be required to pay an additional monthly fee for each other add-on.

    Xfinity Vs. RCN Bundles

Each of Xfinity and RCN provides triple and double play options that encourage the bundling of television, Internet, and phone together.

There are discounts for both providers. However, RCN is superior to Xfinity, with unique offers to new clients. RCN is typically the more affordable choice, but they also offer many more channels than Xfinity.

Xfinity provides an affordable Internet and Phone bundle, beginning at only $40. However, the triple-play bundle offered by RCN is much cheaper than similar bundles provided by Xfinity. I would only recommend the Xfinity TV plan if you’re an avid sports enthusiast. If you’re a frequent viewer of sports channels, such as ESPN, Fox Sports, NBA TV, NFL Network, NHL Network, or MLB, you may be able to are getting the best deal with Xfinity. Of course, cord-cutters can also watch sports, but if you prefer to opt for an internet-only subscription, you can get live sports on cable channels such as fuboTV and Hulu + Live TV and streaming services for leagues such as MLB.TV.

Xfinity Vs. RCN: Installation and Equipment

Both offer self-installation kits that are generally the less expensive choice for your standard broadband and modem. If your particular situation is unusual or you aren’t at ease enough to set up the device by yourself, installation of a professional is possible for an additional charge.

Professional installation by RCN costs about $50, whereas Xfinity’s installation can cost as high as $89.99, depending on the location you reside in. Keep an eye out for RCN’s weekly deals and Xfinity’s special offers. Both companies sometimes provide professional installation for free.

There are more monthly fees for gear rental from both companies. The equipment rental fee for Xfinity is simple. It’s only $14 per month, regardless of the location you’re in. The prices for equipment rental at RCN vary according to what equipment is being rented and the region in which you’re located.

Our Pick: RCN, for the cheap Prices and Fastest Unlimited Internet rates

While both providers provide good service, I think RCN is the clear winner because of its fiber network and affordable prices.

While Xfinity’s speeds are sufficient for the majority of people, However, the price is not the best bargain. You can enjoy better internet speeds for less by using RCN. It’s an absolute simple decision.

The most avid TV or TV-only customers could get more from Xfinity However, for internet-savvy bundlers and Internet junkies, RCN is the clear winner.
