 Pencil

Ticonderoga brand is the most reliable, makes nice dark lines when you need them, and is the easiest to erase. Buying the pre-sharpened ones will save busy teachers a lot of time.

Large ones you can hold in your hand do a much better job than just the pencil tip erasers,                      especially when erasing leftover pencil lines after tracing.

Black Sharpie Marker.

These fine point permanent marker pens make excellent black outlines, have a good tip for coloring, and never bleed when they get wet. Use them with good ventilation and add extra paper underneath to protect your tables.

Prang Crayons.

These are softer than other crayons, so they sometimes look like oil pastels. They also have some lovely brown shades that Crayola does not have unless you buy larger boxes.

Crayola Crayons.

The reliable brand that always works well. The 24 pack has some of my favorite golden orange and yellow colors that seem richer and warmer than Prang has.

How to Create a Parrot Drawing That Looks Great

You are about to learn to draw an adorable parrot drawing filled with vibrant colors and significant special effects! Indeed, these drawing lessons are getting better and better every day. Parrots are fun animals to draw. The nice thing about this character is that you can virtually use any color to create your illustration. You also have the flexibility to play with shapes and features like the beak and the tail. Do you like this illustration? Good news! It can be yours now!

Step 1

First, you must create the sketch used as a template for the vector version. If you own a tablet, feel free to make your illustration on your computer. I prefer to start with a pencil and a piece of paper.

Step 2

Convert your drawing into a digital file and open your vector application. Create a new layer and add black outlines. For a more exciting result, your lines can be irregular (pointed on both ends).

Step 3

Create another layer behind the lines and draw solid shapes filled with plain colors. You can be creative since parrots can be colored with a wide variety of bright colors.

Step 4

Select your gradient tool and add a simple shadow effect on all solid shapes from your illustration. Only the eye (not the pupil) must remain 100% white.

Step 5

Shadows created with the gradient tool are nice, but that’s not enough to give depth to the illustration. Create a third layer and place this between the solid shapes and the outlines. Draw some dark shapes on areas that are not affected by lights. Select the transparency tool and partially hide each body created in the previous step. Since the light is virtually placed on top of the parrot, the bottom of each form must be darker.

Step 7

Create another layer (place it on top) and add white shapes on areas directly exposed to the light source. I like to keep a small space between the edges of these shapes and the black outlines created previously.

Step 8

Use the transparency tool again, but you must hide the bottom part of each shape this time. Good! The character looks great, and as you can see, the illustration has more volume than the one from the step.

Step 9

One last thing you could do is change the color of the outlines. You can use a tone similar to the color of each shape, touching the selected method. Your parrot drawing is now completely done. I hope you had fun with this tutorial, and don’t hesitate to try more parrots below. 🙂 Go back to Animal drawing tutorials. Go back from Parrot drawing (Sketching + vector) to the home page.

Physical features

The nominate, and most numerous subspecies, P. Erithacus Erithacus, sometimes known as the Congo African grey, is silvery grey; the color is darker on the head and wings and lightens on the belly. Head and body feathers are edged in white, giving the birds a scaled appearance.

The tail feathers are bright red. Red feathers may appear randomly among the body feathers of older birds. South African breeders have selected for the latter quality over many generations, leading to all-red birds that sell for exorbitant sums. The face is covered in bare white skin that may blush when the bird is agitated. The eye’s iris is black upon hatching and lightens to yellowish silver as the bird matures. The beak is black. P. Erithacus timneh is a darker steel grey and possesses a darker maroon-colored tail and an upper mandible that darkens from shell-pink at the base to black at the tip.
