Most People experience dissociation in their course of life. It is a state in which a person develops the feeling of dissociation from his body and his surroundings. Various factors contribute to dissociation like a stressful state of mind or a traumatic event in the past. The dissociation effect may last from a few hours to days or weeks or even longer which may turn into dissociative disorder which is a complex situation and needs attention and proper diagnosis to treat. Causes of Dissociative Disorder:

Dissociative Amnesia:

In this condition, a person can’t remember the details about the circumstances of the event that happened in his past life. This occurs due to some traumatic events and abuse. While in severe cases the victim may struggle to remember his name and what happened to him. In some instances, the person found himself in an unknown place without knowing how he reached there. 

A person can have multiple episodes of Dissociative Amnesia during his course of life. Usually, the episode of dissociative amnesia is very sudden and may last for a few minutes, hours, and days. It is a kind of memory lapse but despite this memory lapse the sufferer still engages with the people, but the flashbacks of obnoxious thoughts always haunt him.

Dissociative Identity Disorder: 

It is also called multiple personality disorder, in this disorder, the coexistence of multiple personalities happens in the same individual. A person with this disorder may find difficulty in remembering things because he switches between personalities. Various studies show that Dissociative Identity Disorder happens due to traumatic events in the past life, as the child switches between personalities to challenge the circumstances
